What’s New for Volkswagen in 2024
There have been plenty of changes in the Bud Brown Volkswagen showroom lately. With the significant refresh of the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport, Volkswagen has completed its mission to redesign or significantly refresh every model sold in the U.S. since just the 2022 model year. A major result of this overhaul is that every model with an automatic transmission is now equipped with standard IQ.DRIVE driver assistance technology. So now almost all new VW owners can count on having this sophisticated and useful technology suite. In addition, the Volkswagen Car-Net® Safe & Secure system is available as a complimentary service for 5 years on every 2024 model. Upon activation, Car-Net® Safe & Secure includes:
- Emergency Assistance, Information Assistance
- Automatic Crash Notification
- Anti-Theft Alert (requires the myVW app, excluding ID.4)
- Stolen Vehicle Location Assistance (excluding ID.4)
To activate the plan, owners accept the Car-Net® Terms of Service after they register with the myVW smartphone app and enroll with Safe & Secure in the app’s Shop section.
Starting with the big changes in the Atlas family, let’s look at the 2024 changes for each model line:
Atlas & Atlas Cross Sport
All Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models will be powered by the new “Evo4” 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 TSI® engine, which produces 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The new engine represents a significant power increase over the previous standard engine and has similar horsepower as the outgoing VR6®, along with an increase in peak torque, which occurs at a low 1600 rpm. An eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard; Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is available across the model lineup.
The model gets new front-end styling with a reshaped grille and a standard Adaptive front-lighting System (AFS) on all models. Bigger changes are inside with a new dash design featuring a horizontal theme that flows seamlessly into the side door panels for a distinctly upscale appearance as well as an innovative backlit dash décor featuring the model name. Additional standard features across all models include a heated steering wheel with shift paddles, ventilated front seats, height-adjustable passenger seat, Climatronic® automatic climate control, and Voice Control. Ambient lighting with an available ability to choose among 30 different colors is not available. Top-level grades feature quilted leather seats with a diamond stitching pattern.
The 3-row Atlas adds the Peak EditionTM trimline featuring standard 4Motion all-wheel drive and unique interior and exterior details, including body cladding elements, unique wheels, all-terrain tires, and blacked-out exterior trim.
MSRP for the 2024 Atlas starts at $37,725, and the 2024 Atlas Cross Sport 2.0-liter starts at $36,715. The destination charge for both is $1,350.
Jetta & Jetta GLI
The 2024 Jetta is available in S, Sport, SE, and SEL trims, while the 2024 GLI is offered in Autobahn trim and a new 40th Anniversary Edition trim. All models have standard IQ.DRIVE driver assistance technology, except that Emergency Assist is not available on manual transmission models. In addition, S trims now include an eco-leather trimmed steering wheel, leather gear shift knob, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and rain-sensing wiper function. Sport trims add heated front seats and a space-saving spare wheel. GLI Autobahn models add a heated steering wheel.
Celebrating its birth in 1984 as a “GTI with a trunk,” the GLI 40th Anniversary Edition features black-out exterior trim, black 18-inch 10-spoke wheels, and unique interior details, including embossed “molekular” cloth seats
MSRP for the 2024 Jetta starts at $21,435, and GLI starts at $28,085; destination is $1,150 for all Jetta family models.
Taos
The 2024 Taos continues with S, SE, and SEL trim levels. In addition to IQ.DRIVE, all Taos models feature augmented interior stitching, Light Assist, rain-sensing wiper function, and a heated leatherette trimmed steering wheel. SE models now feature dual-zone Climatronic automatic climate control and will offer a black roof, wheels, and additional blackout exterior trim.
MSRP for the 2024 Taos starts at $23,995, and destination is $1,350.
Tiguan
The Tiguan continues with S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line trim levels. Golf GTI and R
The Golf GTI continues with S, SE, and Autobahn trim levels. As the 20th anniversary has passed, the 2024 Golf R returns to a single trim. Standard power-folding exterior mirrors are now standard for all. There is a new wheel design for GTI SE models, and a new 19-inch wheel design will arrive later in the model year. Available on the GTI later in the year will be a special equipment set called “GTI 380” — more details will come at a later date.
