The New Taos Arrives To Rave Reviews
For 2025, Volkswagen updated the Taos with a new look and more power. The changes have helped invite customers to enjoy an SUV that will take them where life leads them. Car and Driver recently reviewed the updated 2025 Taos.
Before we get into what Car and Driver had to say about the 2025 Taos, let’s talk about what has changed. The exterior gets a new front clip, along with LED headlamps that are standard on all trim levels. You can also upgrade to the available Adaptive Front Lighting System. The rear LED taillights have also changed, along with a light bar across the liftgate matching the latest Volkswagen design language. New wheel designs round out the updates, ranging from 17 to 19 inches.

Inside, the materials are upgraded for better quality, and the instrument panel has been improved. All models get the 8-inch infotainment touchscreen driven by the MIB3 system. SE and SEL models have the 10.25-inch configurable Digital Cockpit Pro, which gives you the information you need. Interior space remains with a 99.5-cubic-foot passenger space for up to five passengers and up to 60.2 cubic feet of cargo space.

The big news is the upgrade in power for the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Power is up to 174 horsepower, while the strong torque number of 184 pound-feet has been retained. The eight-speed automatic transmission is now available on both front and 4Motion all-wheel drive models. Active Control is also part of the 4Motion package, with four available settings: Snow, On-Road, Off-Road, and Off-Road Custom.
To make the updated 2025 Taos pop even more, you have a selection of new colors. You can now get your 2025 Taos in Bright Moss Green Metallic, Monterey Blue Pearl, and Monument Gray – all colors worth considering for your next Taos.

Car and Driver summed up the revised 2025 Taos by stating that “the powertrain updates deliver an immediately noticeable improvement in the vim department. Throttle tip-in is perhaps a bit too aggressive, as the front-drive SE and its open differential produced prodigious one-wheel peel at times, but the car doesn’t feel underpowered like it used to. Its engine note beats the soundtracks from [other] competitors.”
Furthermore, they added that “the 2025 updates make the Taos a solid little runabout, even if some of those updates don’t convert directly to improved performance.”
