The Volkswagen Atlas Is The Right SUV for the Family

Your family needs a spacious vehicle. One that will take you across the Midwest and beyond for road trips and adventures ahead. You also want space for seven people and your luggage with a comfortable ride and solid performance that will take you there without breaking a sweat. Only one vehicle will fit that bill—the 2025 Volkswagen Atlas.
We’re not the only ones who agree with this assessment of our three-row mid-size SUV. The website, New Atlas, stated that the 2025 Atlas offers nothing but “honest utility.”
What does that mean? With 153.7 cubic feet of passenger space, up to seven people can easily get comfortable. With large rear doors and an easy-to-use lever on top of the outboard seatbacks, there is third-row access even for adults to sit back there.
When it comes to the passenger accommodations, New Atlas reported that “[t] here’s room in abundance for shoulders, knees, heads, and so forth. Getting around to fit in each row is also relatively easy compared to many of the Atlas’s not-as-large-as-thought competitors.”

If you need to carry a day’s worth of shopping – or to take your children’s sporting gear, there is up to 96.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the second and third row seats down. New Atlas remarked about the cargo area that “those [second and third row] seats actually drop down flat. Making the Atlas’ interior into a cargo van when needed.”
The test vehicle New Atlas worked with is the Peak Edition. This trim level brings a more rugged look to this family-friendly package. It adds a specific front bumper skin, grille trim, and a set of 18-inch black alloy wheels mounted with all-terrain tires. Inside, Peak Edition models come with a unique V-Tex leatherette upholstery with coordinating dashboard trim. The Peak Edition also seats seven, including a 60/40 split second-row seat.
Every 2025 Atlas is motivated by the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This mighty engine puts down 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. That power is sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission to the 4Motion all-wheel drive system, which is standard on the Peak Edition. You can also tow up to 5,000 pounds with any Atlas model.
In conclusion, New Atlas stated that “if your priorities are utility, passenger comfort, decent capability, and ‘enough’ tech without pretension, the Atlas is a strong option. It doesn’t pretend to be more than it is. The Atlas is a three-row SUV for grownups.”
