Volkswagen has added a new Black Package to the 2025 ID.4, which adds a bit of menace to the exterior. Blacked-out trim may be nothing new in the industry, but it is unusual for EVs. Bud Brown Volkswagen gives you the details.

The Volkswagen ID.4 is known for its smooth and whisper-quiet drivetrain. The motor is nearly silent, and as you accelerate, you don’t experience the constant ramp-up and drop of RPM as the vehicle cycles through the transmission gears because there is no transmission. So, you just hear a faint rise in frequency as the ID.4 approaches its designated speed. ID.4 owners appreciate the quiet way the ID.4 goes about its business. And yet, initially, none of this really fits with the aggressive nature of a black package. That is, unless you flip the premise and, instead of thinking of a loud, roaring predator, consider the lithe, silently effective ninja warrior, or the undetectable stealth bomber, both clad in black. Then you understand what Volkswagen was aiming for.

The Black Package is available on the S and S Plus trims. The most prominent feature is the 20-inch black-painted alloy wheels. This is complemented by a black finish on the ID.4’s “flitzer,” the trim piece over the side windows that widens to become the D-Pillar and essentially defines the ID.4’s side profile. The trim itself is matched by black roof rails. The look is finished with black finish mirror caps and door handles. The package includes one non-black item for S Plus models: an auto-dimming driver’s side outside mirror. Due to the ID.4’s minimally adorned modernist exterior, these changes can significantly enhance the overall exterior impression of the ID.4.

Other changes for 2025 included the fact that all ID.4s with the smaller 58.0-kWh battery now come standard with a 12.9-inch display complete with backlit sliders. S models and above now feature ventilated front-row seats. 2025 models produced after mid-April include a software update that adds a new door opening warning, improves the seatbelt reminder, and offers available Premium Speech functionality. Mountain Lake Blue, the color shown in the accompanying images, is also a new exterior color for 2025.
