​​2026 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport Earn IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Honors​

Crash testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety measures how a vehicle will handle several collision scenarios. The result is based on their ratings system and awarding their TOP SAFETY PICK or TOP SAFETY PICK+ designations. 

The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport recently underwent IIHS testing. They came away with the TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation for both vehicles.  

To achieve the TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation, a vehicle must earn a good rating in the Institute’s updated moderate overlap front test and updated side test, as well as a good rating in the small overlap front test. Acceptable or good headlights must be standard across all trim levels. Importantly, the vehicle must achieve an acceptable or good rating in the pedestrian front crash prevention test. 

The 2026 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport achieved this result with the right equipment to protect you from a collision. That starts with the LED Adaptive Front-lighting system, which achieved a Good rating. Every other collision test was rated Good and Acceptable. 

A key element of the 2026 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport is the standard IQ.DRIVE® advanced driver assistance technology. This system brings various features together to maintain proper pace and protection throughout. These features include Lane Assist, Travel Assist, Front Assist, Active Side Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, and Emergency Assist.  

Also, the 2026 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport are equipped with Exit Warning and Light Assist as standard. Additional features available on both vehicles include Park Distance Control, Park Assist, Dynamic Road Sign Display, Head-up Display, Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control, and Area View. The latter is part of multiple camera views seen through the center display touchscreen.
