It is hard to imagine, not just an EV but any model in recent history, to have the public anticipation generated for the Volkswagen ID. Buzz. Add to that the fact that the ID. Buzz is effectively a minivan. Of course, the excitement is because the ID. Buzz marks a return of sorts of the original Volkswagen Type 2, better known as the Minibus. The Minibus became an icon in the sixties due to its association with the hippy counterculture and as a practical, if slow, flip-side to that decade’s muscle and performance trends and relatively poor space efficiency. Now, the grandchildren of those original Minibus owners could be the purchasers of the Minibus’s descendant. With its imminent arrival, Bud Brown Volkswagen offers these answers to frequently asked questions about the ID. Buzz.

What is its Power

Like its ancestor, the ID. Buzz will be available with rear-wheel drive and a single rear-mounted motor. Very unlike its ancestor, the motor will produce a robust 282 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. The AWD model will feature motors in both the front and rear and produce 330 horsepower. Both models have their energy stored in a 91 kWh battery pack located under the floor.

What will be its Operating Range?

The EPA estimates the driving range for the ID. Buzz to be 234 miles at full charge for the rear-wheel-drive model. The more powerful all-wheel-drive ID Buzz is almost the same, with an EPA-estimated range of 231 miles per charge. VW also estimates a DC fast-charger can charge from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 30 minutes.

What is its Seating Capacity?

While there are shorter two-row models in Europe, all US-bound ID. Buzz models will have a longer wheelbase and 3-rows of seating with a total capacity of seven.
