Car and Driver Lists Six VW Models to its Editor’s Choice Awards
Every year, Car and Driver issues their Editor’s Choice List awards, and Bud Brown Volkswagen is proud to tell you that six Volkswagen models were listed as 2024 Editor’s Choice award winners.
Unlike other automotive magazine awards that choose among new or redesigned models, candidates for the Editor’s Choice List can be any model sold in the US. Thus, these vehicles are selected from among 500 models in 36 categories. Each is considered among the best in their respective categories. The six 2024 VW models selected by Car and Driver for this honor are:
Taos – Subcompact SUV
Tiguan – Compact SUV
ID.4 – Electric SUV
Golf GTI – Sport Compact Car
Golf R – Sport Compact Car
Jetta GLE – Sport Compact Car
“We’re honored to see so many of our models named to the Editors’ Choice list,” said Petar Danilovic, Senior Vice President, Product Marketing & Strategy Volkswagen of America, Inc. “These vehicles represent the best of what Volkswagen offers and what Americans love to drive. Their combination of smart packaging, safety features, and great driving dynamics, all at a great value, is something we’re proud of, and we’re happy to see them recognized.”
Car and Driver drives, tests, and compares models throughout the calendar year. Their criteria in determining the vehicles selected for the Editor’s Choice list include:
- Results from Car and Driver’s industry-leading rigorous instrumented testing
- Editors’ subjective evaluations of each vehicle:
- Performance
- How well a vehicle fulfills its intended mission
- The ranking each vehicle earns within its market segment versus its competitors.
The publication added, “The vehicles on this list have the equivalent of the highest grade-point averages, and they comprise approximately the top quarter of the market. These are the ones we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to our friends, families, and you. We’ve bought more than a few of these vehicles ourselves.”
Car and Driver offered brief comments for each of the winners:
Taos – “Roomier than most rivals, big trunk space, more fuel efficient than expected.”
“Despite its small stature, the Taos impresses with enough interior space to underscore its practical mission.”
Tiguan – ”Chassis tuned for fun, powertrain is willing if not brawny, spacious first and second-row seating—and a third row if you need it.”
“The Tiguan brings a decidedly European flavor to the crowded compact crossover segment with crisp handling and purposeful styling.”
ID.4 – “Cargo area with plenty of space for stuff, larger battery offers realistic driving range, reasonably priced.”
“Generous space and excellent comfort make the ID.4 easy to live with.”
Golf GTI – “Eager engine, balanced chassis, four-door hatchback versatility.”
“The original hot hatch continues to thread the needle between fun, practicality and value with its trademark Teutonic elan.”
Golf R – “Mighty turbo-four power, highly entertaining to drive, hatchback practicality.”
Jetta GLE – “Confident handling, supple ride, still offers a manual transmission.”
“The 228-hp Jetta GLI is one of the last fun-to-drive sedans left in the U.S. for under $30k.”
