The 2027 Volkswagen Tiguan is a two-row compact SUV that seats five, with a 201-hp turbo four or a 268-hp turbo in the SEL R-Line Turbo. It comes as the S, SE, SE R-Line Black or SEL R-Line Turbo, with FWD or 4MOTION all-wheel drive, and it’s EPA-estimated at up to 29 mpg combined (S FWD).
The 2027 Volkswagen Tiguan adds standard Auto Hold, a heated steering wheel on the SE R-Line Black, a sharper rear camera, a Travel Assist lane change that waits for a gap, Emergency Assist Plus that can steer to the right shoulder, and 1 more highway mpg on every version. Engines, cargo space and trim names don’t change.

MPG is city / highway / combined. EPA estimates. Your mileage will vary and depends on several factors including your driving habits and vehicle condition.
If the heated wheel on the SE R-Line Black or the new assist features matter to you, go with the 2027. If they don’t, a 2026 is worth a look, since we’ve got far more of them in stock, and every one was 4MOTION when we checked in early November. You’re welcome to browse our 2026 Tiguan inventory and compare.
Yes. The 2027 Tiguan S FWD is EPA-estimated at 26 city / 35 highway / 29 combined mpg, the best in the lineup, and every version runs on regular gas, so you won’t pay for premium. Union Station in downtown Kansas City is about 40 minutes from our store via I-35 North, so the highway number is the one you’ll live with most.
The spread isn’t big. Going from the S FWD to the 268-hp SEL R-Line Turbo costs 4 mpg combined, and adding 4MOTION to the 201-hp engine costs 2 to 3. If your commute’s mostly I-35 and I-435, we’d point you to a FWD S or SE, unless winter mornings are what’s deciding it for you. That’s covered further down.
The commuting gear you’ll use daily is standard on every trim:
For a family of up to five, yes. The 2027 Tiguan has two rows, a 60:40 split second row, 103.8 cubic feet of passenger space and 33.8 cubic feet of cargo behind the back seat, and that’s room for a folded stroller and a week of groceries at once.
Heritage Park is about 20 minutes from our store, and a Saturday there with a wagon, a cooler and two kids is a fair test for any compact SUV. What to check with your own family in mind:
The spec sheet doesn’t say how many LATCH positions the second row has, so we won’t guess how many child seats you’ll fit side by side. Testing your own seat beats any number we could print. If you’ll need three car seats plus room behind them, the three-row Atlas is the Volkswagen built for that.
It’s a strong pick. Every 2027 Tiguan has the full IQ.DRIVE driver assistance suite, 10 airbags, a rearview camera and front and rear Park Distance Control with Maneuver Braking, and the S FWD is EPA-estimated at 35 mpg highway. Johnson County Community College is about 17 minutes from our store, and Lawrence is about 43 minutes out K-10.
A first SUV shouldn’t take work to live with. Keyless access and push-button start aren’t extras, your phone connects wirelessly, and if you’re about to bump something in a crowded campus lot, Park Distance Control can brake on its own.
The S is the one we’d hand a student. It’s got the same 201-hp engine, safety equipment and screen as the SE, and it has the best EPA numbers in the lineup. The SE’s the better fit if you’d use remote start, leatherette seats and a power driver seat every day. A heads-up for parents: volume, drive modes and climate run through a touchscreen and the Driver Experience Dial, so it’s worth ten minutes in our lot setting up favorites before the first drive to class.

Yes, as long as you’re keeping the load light. The 2027 Tiguan holds 69.8 cubic feet with the second row folded and tows up to 1,500 lb with FWD or 1,800 lb with 4MOTION, when equipped with a factory-installed hitch and an appropriate trailer brake controller on a braked trailer.
Shawnee Mission Park is about 27 minutes away and has a lake with a marina. That’s the kind of trip the Tiguan suits: two kayaks on a small trailer, or camp chairs, a tent and a cooler in back with the seats folded. A boat on a trailer isn’t, and a packed cabin counts against the rating too. If you’ll tow more than 1,800 lb, look at the Atlas instead.
With 4MOTION, Active Control includes Snow and Offroad modes, plus Onroad and a Custom Offroad setting. Offroad adds Hill Descent Control, which you’ll appreciate on a gravel boat ramp.
For most Olathe drivers it comes down to the S for commuters and students, or the SE for families and weekend trips. The SE R-Line Black and SEL R-Line Turbo are there if you’d like more warmth, style or power.
| If you’re a | Look at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Daily commuter | S FWD | 26 / 35 / 29 mpg (EPA-estimated), ACC Stop and Go, Travel Assist, heated front seats |
| Student or first-time buyer | S | Same safety suite and screen as the SE, simplest to learn, regular gas |
| Small family | SE | Power tailgate, remote start, leatherette seats, power driver seat |
| Weekend explorer | SE with 4MOTION | 1,800 lb towing, Offroad mode, available panoramic sunroof |
| Cold-morning driver | SE R-Line Black | Heated steering wheel, head-up display, standard sunroof |
| Driver who wants it all | SEL R-Line Turbo | 268 hp and standard 4MOTION, plus ventilated, massaging front seats and heated rear seats |
Frequent flyers count too. Kansas City International Airport’s about 50 minutes away via I-35 North and I-635 North, and any trim’s cargo area holds a couple of checked bags with every seat up.
The 2027 Tiguan is ready for one. Olathe averages about 98 nights a year at or below freezing, so it’s a good thing every trim has heated front seats, the SE and up add remote start, the SE R-Line Black now adds a heated steering wheel, and the SEL R-Line Turbo adds heated rear seats and a heated windshield.
These are the mornings when remote start and heated features matter most.
A few frosty mornings linger into March and April, so heated seats still get used.
No freezing nights, so the heated features sit idle until fall.
Frost returns in November, so try out remote start before the first hard freeze.
December through February bring close to 70 freezing nights between them, and they’re the mornings when a warm cabin matters more than horsepower. Remote start lets you warm the Tiguan while you’re still inside, and the heated wheel takes the bite out of a wheel that’s sat in the driveway all night.

Snow’s part of it too, about 13.8 inches in a typical year. 4MOTION can send up to 50% of the torque to the rear axle, and Snow mode’s one turn of the dial away. Both 2027 Tiguans we had in early November were 4MOTION models.
The 2027 Tiguan is right for you if you want a five-seat SUV with up to 35 highway mpg (S FWD, EPA-estimated), standard driver assistance and room for 69.8 cubic feet of cargo. It’s not the pick if you need a hybrid or a third row, or you’ll tow more than 1,800 lb.
For an Olathe commuter or student, the 2027 Tiguan S is the value pick. For a small family or weekend trips, you’ll be happiest in the SE with 4MOTION. If cold mornings get to you, don’t skip the SE R-Line Black. It’s the lowest trim with a heated steering wheel. And if your family needs more seats, our new Volkswagen inventory has the three-row Atlas too.

Yes, 4MOTION all-wheel drive is available on every 2027 Tiguan trim, and it’s standard on the SEL R-Line Turbo. The S, SE and SE R-Line Black come with FWD or 4MOTION. In Olathe, May and June are the wettest months, so 4MOTION isn’t only for snow.

No. The 2027 Tiguan in North America has two rows and seats five. If you need a third row, you’ll want the Atlas.
The 2027 Tiguan tows up to 1,500 lb with FWD and 1,800 lb with 4MOTION, with a braked trailer, a factory-installed hitch and an appropriate third-party trailer brake controller. Vehicle load, accessories and options can lower that number.
The SE R-Line Black and SEL R-Line Turbo have a heated steering wheel for 2027. The SE R-Line Black gets it for the first time this year.
Yes, remote start is standard on the 2027 Tiguan SE, SE R-Line Black and SEL R-Line Turbo. The base S doesn’t.
What a 2027 Tiguan costs depends on the trim, drivetrain and options, and it can change month to month, so you’ll find the current number for each unit on our 2027 Tiguan inventory listing.
