Performance

Powering the 2026 Tiguan is the robust fifth generation of the reliable and beloved EA888 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which produces a healthy 201 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque when equipped with front-wheel drive and 227 lb-ft with all-wheel drive. The new-for-2026 SEL R-Line Turbo trim level increases power and torque to 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

Models equipped with the advanced 4Motion® all-wheel drive system, the Tiguan ensures confident handling and traction in a wide range of driving conditions. The versatile Drive Mode Select feature enables drivers to customize their driving experience with modes such as Eco, Normal, Sport, and Custom.

All Tiguan models have an 8-speed automatic transmission that delivers a dynamic driving experience while maintaining optimal fuel efficiency. The EPA estimates that the front-wheel-drive model achieves 26 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. 4Motion® all-wheel-drive models offer 22 city and 30 highway mpg, making them one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs in their class.

In recent testing by Car and Driver, the brand-new and more powerful Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo made its way to 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds, making it one of the fastest vehicles in its class.

Exterior

Sporting a sleek and sophisticated exterior design, the 2026 Tiguan captivates with its distinctive front grille and elegant lines. Available in a palette of eye-catching colors, the Tiguan allows drivers to express their individuality with style. Customers can choose from a range of beautiful and vibrant exterior colors, including Monterey Blue Pearl, Deep Black Pearl, Platinum Gray Metallic, Pyrite Silver Metallic, Pure White, Opal White Pearl, Sands Pearl, and Avocado Green Metallic. Some colors can even be optioned with a Deep Black Pearl roof. Every Tiguan comes standard with LED headlights and taillights for extra visibility in dark driving conditions.

Tiguan S models come standard with 17-inch wheels, while the SE trims get 18-inch alloys. SE R-Line Black and SEL R-Line Turbo models feature standard 20-inch alloy wheels. All models come with all-season tires to maintain usability throughout the year.

Interior

Inside the Tiguan, owners will find a spacious and inviting interior, meticulously designed to prioritize comfort and convenience. With its versatile seating configurations and ample cargo space, the Tiguan is well-equipped to accommodate the demands of modern life.

Entry-level S trim models come standard with soft, comfortable cloth seating surfaces in Grigio and black colors that contrast nicely with the Dark Silver Metallic dashboard trim and gloss-black laser-engraved door panels. SE models can be optioned with a light gray interior called Mistral and Crystal Gray. The SE R-Line Black trim also offers the same Crystal Gray interior color. Both SE and SE R-Line models offer leatherette seats with CloudTex accents and a Silver Fine Metallic interior trim.

The top-of-the-line SEL R-Line Turbo offers customers the choice of Grigio and Black, Mistral, or Amber Brown perforated Verenna leather seats with a quilted diamond pattern. The interior features genuine American walnut trim, along with a wrapped center console accented by double stitching. The high-end black headliner also offers a premium feel for owners. 

The Tiguan has 26.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, which expands to 58.9 cubic feet when the second row is also folded. This makes it one of the best and largest crossovers in its class.

Technology

The Tiguan boasts a comprehensive suite of technological features, including a touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as a new 15-watt wireless charging pad with improved ventilation. Drivers will appreciate the standard tech features, which include a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro gauge cluster and a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, both of which are standard. The SEL R-Line models come standard with a 15-inch screen.

Also standard on all trim levels is a total of four USB-C ports with 45-watt fast charging capability, allowing you to plug in a phone, tablet, or laptop that uses USB-C and charge to full capacity in a short period. The front, second row, and rear hatch area also feature standard 12V power outlets. An optional Harmon Kardon sound system offers 700 watts and 12 speakers, including a subwoofer, plus a 16-channel amp that will make you the envy of every other crossover owner around.
