​​Will the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Return for 2027?​

You have probably noticed that Volkswagen has paused sales of its ID.Buzz for the 2026 model year. While some welcomed the new electric bus with its heritage design and advanced technology, there was a sense that you wanted more from it.  

If you read the various automobile media outlets and social media, there is a rumor that the ID.Buzz may return for the 2027 model year.  In fact, recent coverage of the 2026 New York International Auto Show pointed to comments by the CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, Kjell Gruner, on the Inside EVs website. He reaffirmed that the ID.Buzz is a vehicle that is still worthy of your consideration.  

The ID.Buzz is the first fully electric bus–minivan-developed on the Volkswagen MEB platform. It is equipped with one powerful rear-axle-mounted motor or a two-motor 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, along with a 91-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. It can be charged at home easily or at a public DC Fast Charger at up to 200 kilowatts.  

With seating for up to seven people, the ID.Buzz offers spacious accommodations and smart cargo management solutions. You can roll out the third-row seats for more items with a. flat loading surface. The driver also gets the latest in technology, starting with a 12.9-inch touchscreen multi-function center display. The cabin has a very organized feel, prioritizing passenger comfort and convenience. 

What made the ID. Buzz unique is its exterior styling. It is a mix of our heritage, a shape that takes its cues from the Type 2 Minibus, and modern touches and conveniences.  

But, what about a 2027 ID.Buzz? What kind of changes would you expect from Volkswagen for its electric bus?  

According to InsideEVs, the Volkswagen Group of America CEO hinted at an “adventure-focused” version. He even said that they are in ”intro discussions” about a “camping-focused variant.” That would not only be a unique offering, but it points out to one of the icons of Volkswagen – the Westfalia camper van.  

Currently, it is stated that we would see the 2027 ID. Buzz by this fall.  We hope that it will be the electric bus you always wanted. One with the design that you love, the technology and space utilization you enjoy, with some enhancements that will make it a great family vehicle.
