What’s New For 2017? The Volkswagen Golf Family

We love the Golf! There is now more to love about the Golf Family – now available in hatchback, GTI, Golf R and SportWagen. New for 2017 is the Alltrack with 4MOTION all-wheel drive.

What else is new for 2017?

For starters, the four-door hatchback gets the long-awaited Wolfsburg Edition. This is an upgraded version of the S model available only in the four-door hatchback. Upgraded features include panoramic sunroof, V-Tex leatherette seating surfaces, KESSY keyless access with push-button start, heated front seats, automatic headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, 16-inch “Dover” aluminum wheels, Wolfsburg Edition badging and floormats, Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert.

On the GTI, the lineup sees a new edition, called the Sport. This is also an upgrade from the GTI S model with additional features, such as the brakes from the Golf R, electronically controlled torque sensing, limited-slip VAQ differential, a 10-horsepower increase to 220 horsepower, 18-inch “Nogaro” aluminum-alloy wheels and Bi-Xenon headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lights. The Sport also features unique floormats, KESSY keyless access with push-button start and black mirror caps.

Equipment levels have been raised on the GTI SE and Autobahn models, too! For example, both models can be equipped with the Driver Assistance Package, including features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist), and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert.

For the 2017 Golf R, the popular DCC and Navigation Package is now standard. Plus, Gold R models receive driver’s assistance features, such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, Front and rear Park Distance Control, Lane Departure Warning and High Beam Control.

Lastly, there is the versatile SportWagen. On top of the Alltrack models, the 2017 SportWagen S can also be equipped with 4MOTION all-wheel drive. More driver’s assistance features have been added to the SE and SEL SportWagen, including Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control. An available Driver Assistance Package includes front and rear Park Distance Control, and Parking Steering Assistant, Bi-Xenon headlamps with High Beam Control, Lane Departure Warning, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. A rearview camera now comes standard on all models.

The 2017 Golf Family begins with the four-door S hatchback with the base price of $19,895.
