Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport named SUV of the Year in 2024 Latin Flavor Car of the Year awards

Who is Puros Autos?

Why the Atlas Cross Sport?

The Atlas Cross Sport was already unique in its demographic leanings as it was the first modern Volkswagen designed, engineered, and built specifically for the American market. Since its debut, its generous size, high value, and linear design have made it a significant player in the large 2-row SUV category. 

Derived from the Atlas 3-row SUV, the Cross Sport is 5.2 inches shorter in length and 2 inches lower in height, yet still provides a generous space for its two rows of passengers and their cargo. A key new feature is that all Atlas Cross sport models are now powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 that produces 269 horsepower, 34 more horses than the previous four-cylinder engine. It also cranks out 273 lb-ft of torque, which is seven more than the previous VR 6-cylinder engine. More importantly, more torque where you need it, right off idle when you hit the gas. The engine is paired with an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on all grades, with Volkswagen’s 4Motion® all-wheel-drive system as an option. 

The interior was restyled for 2024 with a significantly more upscale appearance. The Atlas Cross Sport model line has many standard features one would expect to have to option or upgrade to higher trims to acquire. Standard features include heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, tri-zone climate control, a leatherette-trimmed dash with soft-touch material, and adjustable ambient lighting.

With all seats in place, there are 40.0 cubic feet of cargo capacity, which increases to 77.6 cubic feet when the seats are down. Maximum towing capacity is 5,000 pounds, which is impressive for a crossover weighing under 4,200 pounds.
