I.D. Buzz Wins Award, Announces Production – Olathe, KS

The future is coming. Are you ready for it?

At the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Volkswagen introduced the I.D. Buzz Concept. It took the old Microbus and re-imagined it as an electric vehicle designed for families on the go.

The concept caught a lot of buzz that it has earned the 2017 Concept Truck of The Year at the 16th Annual North American Concept of The Year Awards. Volkswagen received the award at a ceremony held at the Concours d’Elegance of America in St. Ann, Michigan. It is the fourth such award for this Volkswagen concept vehicle.

The concept is built on the upcoming Modular Electric Drive Matrix platform, where it is designed to be produced in various forms of vehicles. This is the third I.D. concept to exhibit what the new platform is capable of. For this vehicle, the concept would be crafted into an electric vehicle with a possible maximum battery range of 270 miles. The I.D. Buzz itself would be design to combine the past and the future while meeting the needs of families. The concept could be built out to accommodate up to 162.5 cubic feet of cargo space.

As far as the future is concerned, Volkswagen announced that the I.D. Buzz will go into production by the year 2022. It will be a part of an electrified family of new Volkswagen models on the Modular Electric Drive Matrix platform. Expect these vehicles – including the production version of the I.D.
