The Volkswagen Atlas is About to Get Some Siblings
Though the Volkswagen Atlas is a relatively new SUV out on the market, it’s already becoming a fan favorite and is being picked up by families all over the country. The mid-sized SUV is a highly capable model with three-row seating that’s ideal for families with more than 5. With such a good response from American families, and from other countries as well, it’s no wonder that Volkswagen is planning on expanding on that lineup with a couple of additions as well. Volkswagen recently filed for U.S. trademarks for two additional names, and we expect the lineup to expand to include both models in the next year or two.
The Two New Names
Volkswagen trademarked the Atlas Allsport and Atlas Cross Sport names to keep them set aside for future use and Hinrich Woebcken, CEO of Volkswagen North America hinted at the Atlas lineup getting an expansion in the not so distant future.
What to Expect from the New SUVs
Since the next two SUVs are going to share a name with the Atlas, it’s likely that they’ll be similar in design, but with enough differences to set them apart. It wouldn’t be surprising to see at least one of the models designed to take on the outdoors with a rugged take with more utility features, a tougher disposition towards off-road driving, and maybe some added protections against rocks and things like that.
An off-roading vehicle added to Volkswagen’s lineup would be an exciting addition that we haven’t seen in a long time, and with names like All-sport and Cross Sport both of the new SUV additions are likely to have a rugged and tough focus more than the standard Atlas does.
Another Small SUV on the Way
On top of the expanding Atlas lineup, there’s also talk that Volkswagen is planning on adding on a new compact SUV based on the Tiguan. There’s not much information around this concept but it would likely offer a new style or feature set to differentiate it from the Tiguan, and give Volkswagen fans even more SUVs to pick and choose from.
There’s no official information about the Atlas lineup expanded or new SUVs being added to Volkswagen at all, but the unofficial information is pretty reliable, and it’s safe to say that we’ll likely be looking at a few new Volkswagen SUVs in the not-so-distant future. If you’re a fan of Volkswagen and you like SUVs in particular, there’s something to look forward to.
