What is the ID.4? It is the first of a line of Volkswagen models that will be powered only with electricity. Each one will be designed to feel and drive like a Volkswagen. Each one will set the standard on how an electric vehicle will be used by our owners seeking to gain a footing on the environment.

With the ID.4, you not only get the efficiency of an electric driveline. You also get the practicality of a compact SUV.

This new vehicle is distinctive with its LED light detail across the face of the ID.4. A set of LED headlamps illuminate your way at night. LED taillights also set the signature of the rear of the vehicle with its tapered roofline and wide-opening liftgate. The profile appears “normal” to the naked eye, though it is actually slightly smaller in most dimensions compared to our Tiguan. One might not think of it as an electric vehicle by the way it looks.

Once you’re inside, you have room for five across two rows. Because the battery is below the floor of the cabin, you have generous amounts of foot space in the second row. This also contributes to usable cargo space. With the second-row seat down, you can load up to 64.2 cubic feet – a much larger space compared to a gasoline-powered SUV in the same size class.

Powering the ID.4 are two different levels of performance. A 201-horsepower, 82-kWh motor powering the rear wheels will be offered in rear wheel drive models. All wheel drive versions are powered by two electric motors producing 302-horsepower. The all-wheel drive model has an EPA range estimate of 249 miles. RWD versions are slightly higher. That range will vary depending on your driving and conditions.

Charging the ID.4 is easy, as you can charge from your wall socket all the way up to a DC Fast Charging system. The 11 kW onboard charger allows the ID.4 to charge the battery 33 miles in about one hour, and charges to full in around seven and a half hours at a home or public Level 2 charger. At a DC fast-charging station, with 125 kW charging, the ID.4 can go from five to 80 percent charged in about 38 minutes. That’s plenty of time to do your shopping and grab a quick coffee nearby.

Plus, your ID.4 comes with three years of fast charging by Electrify America at no additional cost. That network is growing rapidly in the Kansas City area and across the country.

Every ID.4  as technically advanced as its driveline. The driver has access to multiple screens and functions right on the steering wheel. You can view your battery life on the ID.Cockpit screen, as well as get your normal speed. The 10-inch Discover Pro infotainment screen is also the hub for the standard navigation and all telematics functions standard on your ID.4. You can also opt for a 12-inch Discover Pro Max when you choose the Statement package. These screens allow for gesture control with just a swipe of the screen to get to the item you want – whether it is navigation, radio, or vehicle function.
