The New Volkswagen ID.4 Electric Vehicle
The future of the automobile in the Kansas City area is here – the Volkswagen ID.4 electric vehicle.
What is the ID.4? It is the first of a line of Volkswagen models that will be powered only with electricity. Each one will be designed to feel and drive like a Volkswagen. Each one will set the standard on how an electric vehicle will be used by our owners seeking to gain a footing on the environment.
With the ID.4, you not only get the efficiency of an electric driveline. You also get the practicality of a compact SUV.
This new vehicle is distinctive with its LED light detail across the face of the ID.4. A set of LED headlamps illuminate your way at night. LED taillights also set the signature of the rear of the vehicle with its tapered roofline and wide-opening liftgate. The profile appears “normal” to the naked eye, though it is actually slightly smaller in most dimensions compared to our Tiguan. One might not think of it as an electric vehicle by the way it looks.
Once you’re inside, you have room for five across two rows. Because the battery is below the floor of the cabin, you have generous amounts of foot space in the second row. This also contributes to usable cargo space. With the second-row seat down, you can load up to 64.2 cubic feet – a much larger space compared to a gasoline-powered SUV in the same size class.
Powering the ID.4 are two different levels of performance. Rear wheel drive models have a single motor producing 201 horsepower. All wheel drive versions are powered by two electric motors producing 295 horsepower.
Charging the ID.4 is easy, as you can charge from your wall socket all the way up to a DC Fast Charging system. The 11 kW onboard charger allows the ID.4 to charge the battery 33 miles in about one hour, and charges to full in around seven and a half hours at a home or public Level 2 charger. At a DC fast-charging station, with 125 kW charging, the ID.4 can go from five to 80 percent charged in about 38 minutes. That’s plenty of time to do your shopping and grab a quick coffee nearby.
Plus, your ID.4 comes with three years of 30 minute DC fast charging sessions at Electrify America stations at no additional cost. That network is growing rapidly in the Kansas City area and across the country.
Every ID.4 is as technically advanced as its driveline. The driver has access to multiple screens and functions right on the steering wheel. You can view your estimated driving range on the ID.4 cockpit screen and the standard 12-inch Discover Pro Max infotainment screen is the hub for the standard navigation and all telematics functions on your ID.4. These screens allow for gesture control with just a swipe of the screen to get to the item you want – whether it is navigation, radio, or vehicle function.
You can also control the vehicle with a simple voice recognition. Just say “Hello ID.” In the summer, all you have to say is “I’m hot” and the climate control will keep you cool. And, you also get Car-Net, which includes App-Connect and wi-fi connectivity.
Volkswagen has not forgotten about keeping you safe inside your new ID.4. Each model is standard with these following IQ.DRIVE features: Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring (Front Assist); Blind Spot Monitor (Side Assist); Rear Traffic Alert; Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC); Lane Keeping System (Lane Assist); Travel Assist; and Emergency Assist. Plus, you also get Dynamic Road Sign Display; Park Distance Control; and High Beam Control (Light Assist).
Pricing for the 2023 ID.4 lineup starts at MSRP of $37,495 for the new Standard model with rear-wheel drive excluding destination, taxes, title, other options, and dealer charges.
