MotorWeek Drives The Updated 2025 Taos

The 2025 Volkswagen Taos has arrived at Bud Brown Volkswagen. This is the SUV everyone in Kansas City has been waiting for.

So has the team at MotorWeek. In fact, they drove one recently for a “Quick Spin” in a recent episode of their highly acclaimed television show, airing every Saturday afternoon on Kansas City PBS.

The first thing they praised is the uprated 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Now at 174 horsepower, torque remains at 184 pound-feet. The revised power plant features the Volkswagen brand’s modified version of the Miller cycle, where the intake valves are closed early in the induction stroke to help with fuel economy. It has a higher compression for a turbocharged engine, which works well with the increase in horsepower.

In 2025, all Taos models will get the eight-speed automatic transmission, including 4Motion all-wheel drive models. Shifting will be much smoother with the 4Motion system compared to previous models.

They also praised the 2025 Taos’s exterior updates. According to MotorWeek, the new front clip and additional exterior LED lighting give it a more “upscale” look. The front end is now in line with current Volkswagen design elements, including the bar that bridges the new adaptive LED headlamp units.

The rear end also follows the latest design language, with the horizontal trim bridging the LED taillamp units. A red LED light strip is added with LED illumination of the logo on the liftgate, adding more style to our smallest SUV.

You will also notice the new wheel designs that are seen on all trim levels. That includes the stylish dark-finished 19-inch alloy wheels found on the SE Black 4Motion trim, as well as on all SEL models.

The interior was updated for 2025. You will notice the new sliding controls for the climate controls, an updated interface for the Composition Media infotainment system, and new trim around the dashboard and the Digital Cockpit. These updates are now aligned with newer Volkswagen models.

A lot has not changed in the 2025 Taos. It offers one of the largest interiors in its class – 99.5 cubic feet of passenger space. That is helped by a long 105.9-inch wheelbase that keeps up to five passengers comfortable on longer trips beyond Kansas and Missouri.

Another key to a good vehicle is its safety and driver assistance features. The 2025 Taos comes with IQ.DRIVE. This system features lane centering and a capacitive steering wheel to help make driving easier. When driving in town, IQ.DRIVE can alert you to unexpected obstacles in front of you and keep an eye on your surroundings to help make driving safer.

In all, the 2025 Taos is now a much nicer place to be. Whether it is on the daily commuting grind to work or a leisurely visit beyond Kansas City, you will be rewarded with a more powerful and efficient SUV for everyday use.
