New VW ID.Buzz Front ViewAutomakers’ transition to electric vehicles has given them the ability to revive historic model names and break new ground with novel styling and shapes. Volkswagen’s line of ID-branded EVs has grown rapidly in recent years, though some might not make it to the United States. One of the coolest models in the ID catalog is coming to the States, however, as the ID.Buzz brings the iconic VW Bus into the electric age with a funky retro look, fun color options, and a range of configuration options for cargo and passenger hauling.

The ID.Buzz is scheduled to go on sale later in 2024. It offers up to three rows of seating for six or seven passengers. It will be available with a 228-horsepower single-motor powertrain or a 330-horse dual-motor setup with all-wheel drive. Models sold in the U.S. will be slightly longer than their European counterparts, and buyers have a range of bright colors to choose from, including two-tone paint schemes.

Volkswagen employed its Modular Electric Drive (MEB) platform for the van and mounted the battery pack low on the floor for a better center of gravity and more interior space. The automaker hasn’t elaborated on the range estimates for the U.S. version, though we know it has an 86-kWh battery. That should give it a range of more than 250 miles, and charging will likely take around 30 minutes to move from 10 to 80 percent on a fast charger.

The funky look and colors continue inside, where VW offers paint-matched dash colors and rounded, friendly shapes. With its eco-friendly powertrains, the ID.Buzz’s interior is packed with sustainable and recycled materials, synthetic leather, and more. The van comes with ambient interior lighting and is available with a large electrochromic sunroof that eliminates the need for a separate shade with the ability to “frost” with the touch of a button.
