The One-Millionth Volkswagen Atlas Assembled, Pictured With A Fraction Of The 4,000 Workers Who Made This Atlas Possible

The Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport are truly an all-American affair, ingrained with German engineering. They are the vehicles we needed at a time when families were looking for more out of their SUVs. The three-row Atlas was introduced in 2016 at the Chattanooga, Tennessee, assembly facility. This was followed by the two-row Atlas Cross Sport in 2019. Both mid-size SUVs were successful because they offered maximum passenger and cargo space in two neat packages.

Just recently, Volkswagen rolled out its one-millionth Atlas from the Chattanooga assembly line. Every Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport represents the efforts of 4,000 American workers who are dedicated to delivering a vehicle to their neighbors near and far.

Whether it is a getaway, a commute to work, or taking the kids to school, the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport do so in spacious comfort. They also offer great conveniences to make the trip easier, including three-zone climate control and multiple cupholders and USB ports throughout the cabin.

The Fancy And Family-Friendly Front Interior Of The Volkswagen Atlas

Today’s 2026 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, rated for 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. This engine can tow up to 5,000 pounds with either Atlas family model.

You get the extra peace of mind with IQ.DRIVE and its driver assistance features. Plus, you get a set of camera views displayed on the 12-inch center infotainment touchscreen. Safety is always at the top of mind at Volkswagen, which is why we are proud to state that the 2026 Atlas received the TOP SAFETY PICK award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Today’s Atlas family is available in a total of ten models. The Atlas Cross Sport has a sporty look, with each model designed to give you more to get to your destination in style. The three-row Atlas is very family-friendly. It is also available in the rugged Peak Edition model – made for greater adventures.

This story is not over. In April, Volkswagen unveiled the 2027 Atlas at the New York International Auto Show with its new design and elevated interior. At its core is a German-engineered SUV made for American families. The new three-row version will be followed by a new two-row Atlas Cross Sport, to be introduced in the months ahead.
