6 New Reasons to Choose the Atlas
In 2018, the Volkswagen Atlas disrupted the 3-row crossover category with its large interior, impressive standard feature set, and timeless good looks. Six years later, the Atlas gets its first full redesign and along the way. Here are several reasons why if you are considering a 3-row crossover, you should head down to Bud Brown Volkswagen with the Atlas on your shopping list.
New Powertrain
For 2024, the Atlas replaces both its existing four- and six-cylinder powertrains with a single turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine across the entire model line. With 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, this standard engine significantly outpowers the previous standard 235 horsepower engine while providing the same EPA-estimated combined fuel economy. As a bonus, the new engine runs on regular fuel compared to the recommended premium for the previous standard engine.
The new engine is more closely in line with the former V6. While it falls just five horsepower shy of the V6, it beats it by seven lb-ft in peak torque, which arrives at just 1,600 rpm compared to 3,500 rpm. Its EPA estimated mpg of 20 city / 27 highway / 23 combined significantly exceeds that of the former V6.
Revised Exterior
The updated exterior starts with a more clearly defined grille framed by headlights that now include the Adaptive Front-Lighting System standard across the model line. Low-beams, high-beams, tail lights, and of course, the daytime running lights are all LEDs. SEL Premium R-Line models even include an LED-illuminated VW grille badge. Various grades have their unique trim elements, but all models have standard roof rails. A panoramic sunroof, measuring about 4.5 feet by 3 feet, with a two-part glass opening system with powered sunshade, is available on SE w/ Technology models and standard on Peak Edition SE w/ Tech models and above.
Improved Interior
Likely, the greatest visual change is with the interior, where higher quality materials can be found everywhere you are likely to see and touch. The horizontal dash design flows seamlessly into the front door panels for an integrated appearance, and the rear door panels look as good as the front. A 12-inch center display is positioned higher for easier quick scanning by the driver and features standard wireless compatibility for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also standard on all models is the 10.25-inch fully configurable driver information center with up to four different displays, including a straight-ahead map display for models equipped with the factory navigation system. Easy-to-discern and intuitive physical steering wheel controls let you make some of your most often-used adjustments with a flick of the thumb.
Unexpected Standard Features
We have already mentioned the adaptive headlights, roof rails, and wireless smartphone compatibility as standard. Other standard features included in the new 2024 VW Atlas will likely have buyers paying extra on competing models such as heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and tri-zone automatic climate control. Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE suite of safety and driver assist features is also standard on all 2024 Atlas models. Included in the system are:
- Travel Assist (semi-automated driving assistance)
- Front Assist (Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring)
- Active Side Assist (Blind Spot Monitor)
- Rear Traffic Alert
- Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go
- Lane Keeping Assist
- Emergency Assist (semi-automated vehicle assistance in a medical emergency).
New Available Features
New features available on upper trim levels or in packages include a new head-up display and an advanced Area View overhead view camera system featuring dynamic guidelines for vehicle direction to help you guide the Atlas in close quarters. Also available is an interior ambient lighting system with 30 color choices, and includes an innovative backlit dash décor design. In addition to providing a map in front of the driver, the factory-installed navigation system can locate off-street parking information in the immediate vicinity and direct the driver to the location of their choice.
Unchanged
Items that haven’t changed on the Atlas include its generous space for passengers in all three rows. Also carrying on is the finely tuned chassis that deftly combines confident handling with a smooth and comfortable ride. And of course, nothing has changed with our amazing Bud Brown Advantage Lifetime Warranty. In short, if you have seen a 2023 or earlier VW Atlas, you haven’t seen the 2024 model. Change that by visiting Bud Brown Volkswagen today.
