May 15th, 2026 by

Volkswagen took center stage at the 2026 New York International Auto Show with the debut of the 2027 Atlas. With an all-new platform, technology, performance, exterior, and interior design, the upcoming 2027 Atlas will continue to be a choice for families seeking space and German engineering.

The 2027 Atlas moves to the MQB evo platform, currently underpinning the latest Tiguan. The new platform is flexible while retaining much of the driving DNA that makes a Volkswagen a distinctive vehicle. Yet, the new platform was engineered to ensure that families will enjoy the same volume of space and ride quality that the outgoing model is known for.

Wheel sizes range from 18 to 21 inches with all-new designs. You can get your 2027 Atlas in three new colors: Blackberry, Sacramento Green, and Sandstone.

You’re sure to notice the new Atlas with its new, modern exterior design. Taking the latest design elements across the Volkswagen lineup, the 2027 Atlas incorporates double-stacked LED headlamps, a distinctive horizontal LED taillight signature, an LED lightbar across the grille area, and illuminated logos front and back on most trim levels. The glass silhouette is larger for a wider field of vision.

The interior is elevated. A sculpted dashboard incorporates the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro instrument cluster, along with larger center display touchscreens at 12.9 and 15 inches. While feeling luxurious, the 2027 Atlas is full of family-friendly conveniences, such as dual wireless device chargers, rear sunshades, and a power liftgate. The shift lever is now moved to the steering column, creating more space in the center console for stowage. Some models will sport Nappa leather upholstery, massaging front seats, and wood decor.

The Atmospheres feature in the 2027 Atlas lets you set the cabin’s mood to your own taste and feeling. The same knob on the center console also selects your drive modes, controls the audio system volume, and changes station presets or tracks in your music files.

There continues to be an emphasis on safety in the 2027 Atlas. The standard IQ.DRIVE driver assistance suite adds more upgraded features, while the new front center airbag enhances occupant safety

Powering the 2027 Atlas is an updated version of the EA888 Evo5 engine. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder is now rated for 282 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and available 4Motion all-wheel drive. The engine is mapped for improved fuel economy, while capable of towing up to 5,000 pounds.
