While it resembles its larger siblings – the Tiguan and Atlas – the Taos is distinctive amongst the crowd. The design is simple and genuinely Volkswagen. SEL models add more distinction with a set of 19-inch alloy wheels and an LED light bar on the front grille. No matter which color you choose, you will like how the Taos SEL pops any time of day or night.

Once you step inside, you will love how straightforward and advanced the interior of the Taos truly is. For the driver, the leather upholstered seats are both supportive and fatigue-free. The driver can adjust their seat for rake, recline, height, and for lumbar support. We found these seats work for various types of bodies over miles of driving.

The SEL’s 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro instrument cluster is straightforward to use and comprehend. We love the shifter for the DSG transmission as it is light and quick to use. The Climatronic climate control system kept us cool during our usual Kansas-Missouri summer.

The eight-inch Discover Media MiB3 infotainment screen is just right for our use. You can connect your smartphone devices wirelessly through the Wireless App-Connect or through two USB-C ports beneath the center stack. We were treated to the sound of eight BeatsAudio Premium speakers that reproduced our favorite tunes along the way.

There is comfortable space for a family of five. The rear seat space is superb, with plenty of leg and head room for adults. You can take a lot of luggage to fill the 27.9 cubic feet behind the second-row seats. Need more for more extensive trips? The maximum cargo space is 65.9 cubic feet – more than enough to take home a bargain from a garage sale miles away.

The best part of this Taos SEL 4MOTION is its driveline. It starts with a 158-horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that also puts down 184 pound-feet of torque. Add the seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission and the 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system, and you have a true four-season vehicle.

Along the drives we took, our 2024 Volkswagen Taos SEL 4MOTION was lively, enjoyable, and sprightly. Whether it was a leisurely stroll along Ward Parkway or a quick run on the Kansas Turnpike, the Volkswagen Taos was very enjoyable to drive, with solid acceleration and poised cruising. The entire driving experience induced lots of smiles along the way.
